Our Psychologists offer several different types of assessment, depending on the referral question.

Psychoeducational assessments focus on how an individual learns. It looks at areas like reading, writing, math, cognitive abilities, memory, and attention to understand why someone may be struggling (or excelling) in school. It’s often used to identify learning disabilities or giftedness and to guide school supports. Gifted assessments are a type of psychoeducation assessment that focus specifically on cognitive abilities and (sometimes) academic skills.

Psychodiagnostic assessments look at an individual’s emotional and behavioural well-being. It helps identify concerns such as anxiety, ADHD, mood challenges, or other mental health conditions. The goal is to understand an individual’s experience and recommend helpful supports or treatment.

Developmental assessments focus on early growth and milestones, such as speech and language, motor skills, social interaction, and play. It’s commonly used for younger children to see if they are developing as expected or may need extra support (for example, with speech or autism-related concerns).
