Approaches to Psychotherapy:
My primary focus is women’s mental health and wellbeing. I am committed to offering a safe and nurturing space that supports self-discovery, emotional regulation, personal growth and healing and the confidence that allows my clients to live a life that is truly meaningful to them. I incorporate parts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Complicated Grief Therapy, inner child work and Polyvagal and Somatic therapy, two approaches that focus on the mind-body connection. I can also incorporate a Christian worldview when requested.
I'm proud to follow in the footsteps of my father, Dr. Gary R. Collins and continue his legacy of service in the field of counselling.
Clinical Experience:
I completed my graduate research at Baylor University in Waco, Texas on complicated grief and loss and post placement adjustment in adoption. I spent close to fifteen years working with teenagers and families from impoverished neighborhoods in Chicago, coping with traumatic loss and disenfranchisement; I supported clients in more affluent communities facing a variety of complex issues including addiction recovery, dysfunctional family dynamics, sexual identity, and career transitions; I served as an Adjunct Professor at Trinity International University from 2017-2019; for a few years, I utilized the unique relationship between horse and human as an Equine Assisted Psychotherapist and now incorporate the calming presence of a therapy dog with clients who I see in person. I am newer to Ottawa, feel privileged to be working at Centrepointe with such an esteemed team and look forward to supporting your journey toward health and healing
