Therapeutic Approach and Clinical Experiences
I strongly believe in the importance of establishing a positive and safe therapeutic environment and working collaboratively with clients to develop a treatment plan that will meet their individual needs and improve functioning and quality of life. My primary therapeutic approach is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a type of therapy that looks at the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Related to this approach, I use Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for the treatment of PTSD and Exposure/Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of OCD. I am also a certified Basic Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) practitioner. For information about ART, please go to acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com.
As a clinical psychologist, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings including the IWK Health Centre Mental Health and Addictions Program in Halifax, NS from 2004-2009; the University of Manitoba & Deer Lodge Centre Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic in Winnipeg, MB from 2009-2013; and the Operational Trauma and Stress Support Centre (OTSSC) and General Mental Health (GMH) programs at the Canadian Forces Health Centre in Ottawa, ON from 2013-2018. I have also held a number of leadership appointments including Psychology Practice Leader, Interim Clinical Leader, and Acting Program Manager for OTSSC and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba. I have supervised psychology practicum students, interns, and psychologists under board supervision.
