Therapeutic Approach and Clinical Experiences:
In therapy I work mainly within an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) framework. ACT is an active form of therapy where clients explore what is important to them and learn skills to handle difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively. For younger clients I often use DNA-V as a developmentally-sensitive approach to ACT. I also draw from a variety of other therapeutic models and techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), emotion focused family therapy (EFFT), collaborative problem-solving (CPS), and exposure with response prevention (ERP) depending on the needs of my clients and their families.
As a clinical psychologist working primarily with children and adolescents, I have been part of the Centrepointe Professional Services team since 2011 and I have been a managing partner since 2018. Prior to this, I maintained a private practice in Orleans, Ontario and worked with the Regional Assessment and Resource Centre’s (RARC) Mobile Assessment Team. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and my supervised practice year as a psychologist with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. On several occasions I have taught the third year “Exceptional Children” course at Carleton University.
