Therapeutic Approaches, Clinical Experience, and Additional Information
Approaches to Psychotherapy:
I work to create a safe, caring and fun environment in which to explore the meaning and motivation of behaviours and help client work through the challenges they are experiencing. I collaborate with clients to create personalized therapy plans that meets their needs and goals.
My approach draws from a variety of theoretical models and techniques including: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories; Self In Relationship Psychotherapy (SIRP), works to understand and address psychological and relational problems from the perspective of unmet self, relational and physical intimacy needs; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), designed to help identify and changes thoughts, attitudes and beliefs that affect ones emotions and behaviours; Relapse Prevention Therapy (RPT), which aims to limit, or prevent, relapse by way of identifying and anticipating circumstances that are likely to provoke a relapse and; Stage of Change model, also know as the Transtheoretical Model (TMM), used to promote an understanding of the elements and stages of change, change behaviours and ways to work through each stage in order to achieve personal goals.
Clinical Experience:
For over two decades prior to earning my Master’s degree, I provided services and supports in the areas of addictions, mental health, trauma and conflict with the law. I have worked in community, residential, and health care settings, with a wide range of clients including youth, adults and families at risk.
As part of my Master’s program, I completed a 9-month internship with Mental Health and Addictions Services of Ottawa (MHASO). I completed my qualifying hours within a local Community Health Centre, which focussed on working with people experiencing Concurrent Disorders (mental health and addictions). I joined Centrepoint Professional Services on a part-time basis, as an independent practitioner, in the summer of 2025.
